What are three things you love about Texas State University?

I love the beauty of the campus; in my opinion this is by far the prettiest campus in Texas! I’m able to go for a walk anywhere and find shade, smiling faces, and unique pieces of TXST history along the way.

I love University Camp, which is a hidden gem of Texas State University. Students can rent day use sites for free, and it provides 5 miles of trails for hiking and biking. University Camp is also along the Blanco River, which provides a much quieter and reflective experience than the San Marcos River, here in town. Lastly, grab some friends and rent a cabin or a tent and spend the weekend making memories!

I love that there’s an outdoor trip program. Not many folks know that they can take outdoor trips all over Texas and the country at a highly discounted cost than what it would take to plan yourself. They’ve traveled to Hawaii, the Carolinas, and every Thanksgiving break they take a trip to Big Bend National Park and have Thanksgiving dinner on top of a mountain!

How would you describe the atmosphere at TXST?

The atmosphere is simultaneously energetic and laid back. It's a place that offers so many different experiences and opportunities that it allows you to find your niche, and to become the person that you truly want to be. If you don't know who you want to be yet, it provides you the chance to explore and discover yourself.

What is your favorite Texas State tradition?

My favorite Texas State tradition is Cat Camp! Cat Camp is a multi-day camp that lets you connect with other incoming first-year students to Texas State University. It's a student-led experience that teaches the pride and traditions of Texas State, all while helping you make new friends and connections to the university, to be successful in your first year at Texas State! Will you be Camp Maroon? or will you be Camp Gold?
