San Marcos is conveniently located between two of the largest U.S. cities, Austin and San Antonio. Austin is the place for you to explore parks, visit world-class museums, and celebrate at music, film, and food festivals. San Antonio is a historic city that’s been around since before Texas was Texas. Stroll along the famous River Walk, sample the best tacos in Texas, or hop onto a thrilling roller coaster at one of San Antonio’s popular amusement parks. Together, they comprise the Innovation Corridor—the center of commerce, technology and education in Texas. Residential Life
If you are a freshman, you will live right on campus in one of our beautiful residence halls. You can choose from 23 locations across campus. All of them are close to facilities you will need, like the student center, the gymnasium and the library.
All rooms are furnished and include access to cable television, the local telephone service and high-speed internet connections. You can share a room with up to three other people. We’ll match you with appropriate roommates based on how you like to live. You’ll get to know more about American culture through your roommates.
Student Support
Texas State is committed to the success of every student. The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) provides a variety of resources for international students and can help you connect with more across campus.
You will find tutoring services available through the Student Learning Assistance Center (SLAC) and writing assistance at the Writing Center. There are resources to help you stay healthy, fit and stress free, such as the Student Health Center, Campus Recreation and Counseling Services. And, Career Services can help you find student employment and explore your options after graduation.
Transportation
Get to class with a Bobcat Campus Shuttle, which has 45 buses covering 10 routes around campus. To roam a little farther, THE BUS offers services along seven routes in San Marcos, CARTS Interurban Coach offers daily service to and from Austin, and Transportation Services provides weekend shuttles to Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Additionally, there are two international airports near San Marcos: Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) and San Antonio International Airport (SAIA), each within 30 to 45 miles of San Marcos (48-80 km).
